Benguet General Hospital

This project was participated in by RGC&A Hospital Planning Consultant Dr. Nicolas Gordo Jr., during his stint as Provincial Health Team Leader of the Benguet General Hospital in 1992. At that time the hospital (predecessor of the current), was an aging hospital building that was hardly able to address the ever-growing demand of the growing patient demand.

Dr. Gordo worked with architect representatives from Nikken Sekkei Ltd., over a span of several meetings in conducting interviews with hospital staff; in order to identify directions for the (then-proposed) new Benguet General Hospital.

In response to the request of the Government of the Republic of the Philippines, the Government of Japan decided to extend its Grant Aid for improvement of the medical system in the Province of Benguet, including a new building for Benguet General Hospital. Upon completion, the capacity of the hospital doubled to 200 beds, clinical services were expanded and ancillary facilities such as x-ray, ultra-sound laboratory, pharmacy, rehabilitation and social services were strengthened. Also training and educational activities were expanded.
